DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The City of Southgate Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for the Civic/Ice Arena, Homer Howard Ballfield Complex, Southwinds Golf Course, Senior Center, recreation programs, and all city parks.

The department boasts a beautiful Municipal Complex area on Reaume Parkway and Dix-Toledo Road with Recreation amenities such as an Ice Arena/Civic Center with 2 indoor ice rinks, 10 baseball/softball fields, golf course, outdoor inline rink, pavilion, and playground. Along with the other city parks and neighborhood parks, it totals just over 51 acres of land. That doesn’t include the Southgate Nature Center, which is about 40 acres near Southgate Anderson High School. The City has a partnership with Southgate Community Schools that provided a Nature Center and walking trail that is part of the Downriver Linked Greenways.

Market Center Park has become the place for events, music and outdoor markets. Weekly Thursday concerts occur throughout the summer courtesy of our Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Other special events are held here throughout the year. Check out the Recreation/DDA calendar for more information.

EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2024 DOG LICESNES WILL BE ISSUED AT PARKS & RECREATION - DOG PARK PASSES WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE.
